Inside Ant and Dec’s gameshow ‘flop’ ahead of Limitless Win launch on ITV tonight

ANT and Dec are back with a brand new gameshow, Limitless Win – and they are hoping it will be a HUGE hit.

The new ITV series is the Geordie duo’s first new show in over ten years, after their last quiz show Red or Black proved be a massive “flop”.

Ant and Dec’s 2011 gameshow Red or Black did not go down well with viewers

The pair are seen as ITV’s “Golden Boys”, as everything they touch, pretty much turns to gold.

But, cast your mind back to 2011, and it wasn’t the case when they launched their gameshow Red or Black.

A bit like Limitless Win, the show set out to give out the largest cash prize ever handed out on the UK small screen in a show masterminded by Simon Cowell.

Despite the huge hype, Ant and Dec later revealed they knew Red or Black would be a flop on the very first night.

“We got it wrong and we hold our hands up to that. We knew after the first night,” Dec would later admit.

The main issue with the show was that it was accused of encouraging gambling – as it used a Roulette wheel.

The format of the show also confused viewers as it saw contestants compete in numerous challenges, only for their fate to be decided in the final minutes when they gambled their prize on ‘red or black.’

Another scandal to hit the ill-fated series was when one of the show’s winners Nigel Hagerman past assault conviction resurfaced.

But Ant and Dec are hoping to put all that behind them on tonight’s Limitless Win debut episode.

LIMITLESS FUN

As the title suggests, the prize pot is “limitless” – in other words there is no limit to how much contestants can win.

Every question is an opportunity for contestants to climb the endless money ladder and reach the big cash – but only a correct answer banks the cash.

Push their luck too far, and the contestant will crash out of the game and lose it all.

Ant told PA news that this is a gameshow with a difference.

He continued: “I think ours [show] is different because the answer to every question is a number, and it’s very simple, and everyone can play along.

“You don’t have to be the brains of Britain.

“And with other quiz shows, suddenly when you get into very serious money, the answers become impossible to play along with, but with this you can have a stab at every one.

“And what makes it different is it’s the world’s first limitless jackpot.

“That’s the selling point for us, and that’s what hooked us in, is the fact there’s no top prize, and if you played this game right, you could win millions upon millions of pounds.”

  • Catch Limitless Win TONIGHT at 8.30 pm on ITV.
