Antiques Roadshow star Andy McConnell has revealed the shocking truth about his personal life, including his rundown home that was deemed unfit to live in and a major health issue he deeply regrets.
Andy's major health regret
The 71-year-old glass expert recently disclosed that he suffers from Emphysema, a lung illness that weakens the lungs' air sacs and causes symptoms like chest infections, a persistent cough, and shortness of breath. Andy admitted that he deeply regrets smoking heavily for 50 years, stating that cigarettes should cost £500 a packet.
Andy's "fleapit" home not fit for human habitation
Aside from his television appearances, Andy also shared his plans to renovate his home, which he describes as a "fleapit." When he bought the property four years ago for £230,000, it was declared unfit for human habitation. However, Andy saw the potential and managed to negotiate £95,000 off the asking price. While he has only installed a new bathroom and boiler so far, he is now planning a complete renovation.
Andy McConnell's surprising previous job
Before becoming involved in the antiques sector, Andy worked as a rock and roll journalist in Hollywood, California. From 1972 to 1976, he toured the US with legendary folk bands and later worked for Island Records, producing marketing videos for well-known bands like Tears for Fears and Steve Winwood. After leaving Island in 1983, he worked as a production manager for Channel 4's Rockers Roadshow.
Recently, some Antiques Roadshow guests expressed their disappointment with the BBC after being forced to leave the set of the show due to adverse weather conditions. They felt "seriously let down" by the situation.
