MANY Line of Duty fans are hoping to get their crime drama fix from ITV’s latest offering, Trigger Point, which premiered on January 23.
However, despite similarities that left some viewers accusing the show of being a “rip-off”, the two programmes aren’t directly linked.
Is Trigger Point linked to Line of Duty?
Despite the speculation, ITV’s Trigger Point and BBC police drama Line of Duty are not directly linked and aren’t set in the same universe.
However, there are some clear similarities between the two.
Both Trigger Point and Line of Duty star Vicky McClure as one of the lead characters, but she has shared that she’s not fussed about comparisons between the two crime shows.
“I’m not concerned in so much as this is what actors do,” the 38-year-old actor told The Metro. “I have fallen into this genre.”
She added that despite superficial similarities, the two characters are quite different: “I look at Lana and Kate and I don’t see them together as the same people at all.
Not only with the way that Lana looks and the way we have designed that, her personality is very different.”
As well as Vicky’s involvement in both shows, Line of Duty’s showrunner Jed Mercurio acts as an Executive Producer on Trigger Point.
Who does Vicky McClure play in Trigger Point?
In Trigger Point, Vicky McClure plays Metropolitan Police bomb disposal expert Lana Washington, who’s nicknamed Wash by her co-workers.
The first episode of the show sees Lana and her colleague Joel Nutkins (played by Adrian Lester) respond to a bomb call in a London housing estate.
However, when the pair arrive, they quickly realise that they’re dealing with the work of a group of highly sophisticated and dangerous terrorists.
How many episodes of Trigger Point are there?
There are six episodes of ITV drama Trigger Point.
The first episode premiered on Sunday, January 23 on ITV at 9pm.
The next five episodes will air on ITV at the same time each week, and will also be made available on ITV’s streaming site, The ITV Hub.
