John has hosted the Junior version of the show, Gregg is a judge on The Professionals and both of them present Celebrity MasterChef.

But now they want to follow in the footsteps of The Great British Bake Off – by lighting up the West End with their own MasterChef stage show.

Based on the C4 series, The Great British Bake Off Musical starring Zoe Birkett was launched last year.

And Gregg, 58, reckons that after hosting MasterChef with John for 18 years, perhaps it’s time they followed suit.

In an exclusive interview with The Celeb Report’s TV Mag, he said: “I was at Charing Cross station in London yesterday and I saw a poster for The Great British Bake Off: The Musical, and I was thinking: ‘Why haven’t John and I got a musical?’ “

He added: “I’d always hoped there’d be MasterChef Talented Pets On Ice. That’s the one I’ve always been holding out for. But a MasterChef musical would be a really great idea.”

John, 57, added: “A MasterChef musical on ice would be better.”
And the duo even know who they would like to take on their roles.

Gregg said: “I’d want Uncle Fester from The Addams Family [Christopher Lloyd]. John would have to have that good-looking Australian who’s in The Greatest Showman. What’s his name? Hugh Jackman!”
Then John joked: “t’s either him or Ryan Reynolds.

John and Gregg were talking to TV Mag ahead of the final heats on this year’s series as the contestants battle it out to become the 2023 champion.

And they also revealed the conversations they had with the Royal Family when they went to collect their MBEs earlier this year for services to food and charity.

Gregg said: “I talked to Princess Anne about rugby and about bull terriers, and she’s a big fan of both, I knew that. “

The TV personality added: “She mentioned MasterChef and asked me if I was still filming at the moment, and whether I still enjoyed cooking because my life was engrossed in food. “

He then joked: ‘Yes, nobody ever gets bored with eating, Ma’am.’”

John added: “Prince William said to me that he’d like to learn how to cook and I said: ‘You’ve got my number, anytime just give me a call.’”

MasterChef airs on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday next week on BBC1. TV Mag is free inside The Celeb Report every Saturday.
