Kate Garraway ‘hits back’ as Ben Shephard mocks her over new TV award nomination

KATE Garraway and Ben Shephard were joshing each other today after she was nominated for a Royal Television Award.

Embarrassed Kate, 54, moaned “I think you’re all being nasty and mocking!” after he praised her for being recognised in the network presenter of the year category.

Ben was of course joking and hailed Kate as ‘amazing’

Ben, 47, opened the show by revealing they had “breaking news” and in an overly gushing voice, he said: “I need everybody to be aware, we have some breaking news, and some good news at that.

“Because two of the broadcasters on this show have been nominated for awards.”

The camera panned to Charlotte Hawkins, Dr Amir Khan and Laura Tobin, and it then landed on an embarrassed Kate.

Ben continued: “Absolutely thrilled to bits that the RTS, which is the Royal Television Society, have nominated – and you’ll be surprised and delighted like we all were – for network presenter of the year, the one and only Miss Kate Garraway!”

As award music played Kate cringed and said: “I feel like such a fraud!”

Ben joked she’d been nominated for simply “turning up” to work but admitted, “we are teasing Kate. Really, really thrilled.”

Meanwhile, GMB North America Correspondent Noel Phillips also received a nod in the Young Talent of the Year category.

Kate hailed Noel a “massive asset to the show” as they praised his well-deserved nod.
