Difficult projects lead to tragic deaths
Channel 4's Kevin McCloud has shared the devastating news of two deaths that occurred during the filming of Grand Designs. Despite the show's focus on showcasing impressive house projects and renovations, McCloud admitted that not all of them had a happy ending.
Personal challenges during filming
In an interview with New Zealand publication Stuff, McCloud discussed the difficult times he and the crew faced while filming the show. He revealed that they were currently working on a brand new episode, yet to be aired, when a participant tragically passed away. This unexpected event posed a significant challenge for the production team in terms of the narrative of the episode.
Remembering Nat McBride
McCloud also fondly remembered Nat McBride, another participant on the show who passed away during the filming of an episode. Nat, who was diagnosed with stomach cancer, left behind his wife Lucie Fairweather. Despite the tragedy, Lucie decided to continue the project on her own, with the guidance of architect Gerry Tate. Their determination and resilience led them to win an award for their impressive build.
Grand Designs is known for showcasing ambitious and unique projects, but it's important to remember that behind the scenes, there can be personal challenges and heartbreak. McCloud's revelations serve as a reminder of the highs and lows experienced during the filming process.
