THE future of Birds of a Feather will look drastically different, according to Lesley Joseph.

Actress Lesley, 76, has played Dorien Green in the television sitcom Birds of a Feather since the 80s.

Lesley has opened up about the future of Dories on Birds of a Feather

The show ran from 1989 to 1998, and again from 2014 to 2020, and fans are holding out hope for a return to our screens.

However, the star has shattered the dreams of many in a recent interview.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Lesley opened up about the future of Dorien, as well as her upcoming role in the West End production of Sister Act.

Comparing her new character as a nun to the scantily-clad Dorien, Lesley said: “My character in Sister Act wears long robes and has covered hair.

Whereas, Dorien Green had the high heels, the short skirts, the big hair, the jewellery and the long nails.”

She added that the two: “Couldn’t be more different,” explaining that “Dorien was only a part of my career.

“It was over a period of 31 years but I’ve always spent half my time in musicals.

“However, Dorien is the one role people pick up on.

“In the beginning more than 20 million people watched the show – we can’t imagine those figures now. She was iconic.”

The show attracted millions of fans over its run, many of whom are eager for Dorien to return to TV.

However, when asked if there would ever be anymore episodes, Lesley delivered a gutting blow.

She told the publication: “I don’t want to see Dorien on a Zimmer frame, so bless her heart, I think I’ve laid her to rest now.”

Lesley added: “It was a phenomenal series and people still adore it – I can’t tell you how many letters I get from people about it and there’s only a handful of sitcoms that have success like that.”
