But as he took part on a group therapy session in the Channel 4 reality series, things took a heartbreaking turn.
Former Love Island star Toby Aromolaran, 24, and model Chloe Veitch, 24, were enacting a would-be conversation between Martin and his late mum.
Martin, 59, then started to sob as he was comforted by the likes of Kerry Katona, 42, because he felt like he didn’t support his mother in her last moments after she had a stroke.
He confessed: “You know what I feel guilty about, it was really hard to come back and support like I should have done.
“Because it was so painful because you were still my mum, but you weren’t, because you’d changed.
In his confessional directly to the camera, he struggled to come to terms with his feelings.
He admitted: “I have obviously been fairly wrapped with guilt without even realising it about the fact that I probably didn’t go back to see her and support her.”
Before becoming overwhelmed with emotion as he added: “I can’t even talk about this.”
This comes after the TV personality was left stunned after indulging in “spanking therapy” courtesy of a Love Island hunk.
The BBC anchor, 59, dubbed the situation – involving Toby Aromolaran, 24 – as “totally ridiculous.”
Martin can be seen telling the camera: “The situation is totally ridiculous.
“I’m about to have my bottom whacked by Toby.”
The property expert lay on a massage table face-down, with Toby letting slip a grin.
Toby laughed and said: “This is so silly,” before Martin pulled down his boxers to expose his bare bum.
Yet what viewers might not expect were the sheer hoots of delight coming from the bed as Toby got stuck in.
The Love Island alumni told the camera: “He’s creasing – he’s creasing so much.”
He added: “Martin really enjoyed it – a bit too much!
A show expert told how the procedure was “a reminder to come back into the body.”
