Is Maryland based on a true story?
Maryland is an ITV relationship drama which follows two sisters who have grown apart over the years.
Becca and Rosaline are then brought together when the discovery of their mother’s body on the Isle of Man reunites them.
The series was created by actress Suranne Jones and screenwriter Anne-Marie O’Connor,
ITV’s Maryland has drawn an all star-cast, which includes a famous Hollywood actress.
Who is in the cast of Maryland?
Suranne Jones
Talented actress Suranne Jones plays the lead character Becca
As well as writing the series, Suranne Jones takes the co-lead as Becca in Maryland.
The actress is best known for Doctor Foster and The Gentleman Jack.
Speaking to The Celeb Report, Suranne revealed the tragic events that inspired the story said: “It’s no secret that I’ve lost both of my parents, so obviously I know grief and that was a huge part of our conversations and what that does to someone.
“It’s either going to come or people have experienced it, and this show doesn’t deal with it quickly, it deals with it over three episodes, the stages of grief.
“There’s humour in it and it’s not an easy, straightforward ride. You don’t get a blueprint of how you’re going to feel.
“Knowing sickness, knowing illness, knowing grief, knowing death was a huge part of it and I think we’re both really proud of how that turned out.”
Eve Best as Rosaline
Eve Best takes on the co-lead in Maryland
Acclaimed actor Eve Best plays Becca’s sister Rosaline.
She is best known for playing Princess Rhaenys Velaryon in House of the Dragon,
Further TV credits came in Prime Suspect: The Final Act, The Walking Dead, Nurse Jackie, and The Honourable Woman.
Stockard Channing as Cathy
Maryland brings with it Oscar nominated actress Stockard Channing.
She is best known for playing Rizzo in the iconic 1976 movie Grease, and also starring in The West Wing.
In Maryland she plays Cathy, Becca and Rosaline’s mum’s larger-than-life friend on the island.
George Costigan as Richard
Happy Valley actor George Costigan plays the sisters’ dad Richard.
He first hit the spotlight when he took the lead as Bob in the 1987 film Rita, Sue and Bob Too.
On TV George is also known for Gentleman Jack, and Line of Duty.
The other cast includes:
- Hugh Quarshie – The actor is known for Stephen, and Riches.
- Dean Lennox Kelly – The actor is known for Tom Jones, and Jamestown
- Andrew Knott – The actor is known for Ackley Bridge, and Tin Star.
When is Maryland on TV?
Maryland will start tonight, May 22, 2023, at 9pm on ITV.
The series is made up of three episodes which will air over three nights at the same time, concluding on May 24, 2023.
The drama will also be available as a boxset on ITVX after the first episode has aired.
