Now the release date for the Squid Game: The Challenge series on Netflix has been confirmed.
Squid Game: The Challenge will be on the platform in November, according to the streamer, who announced this during its Upfronts event.
A precise release date will be announced at a later time.
456 contestants will compete in games based on the popular South Korean drama series for a $4.56 million prize in the reality spin-off.
Squid Game is a survival thriller set in modern-day Seoul, Korea where desperate people are lured into playing simple children’s games to win money or die trying.
Back in February, it was revealed that several of the performers were subjected to harsh working conditions while filming the show.
Health and Safety Executive officials launched a probe into last month’s chaos as medics had to treat contestants suffering from the extreme cold.
They told them in future they must “plan properly for any risks” on set.
Hopefuls competing for a £3.7million prize spent hours in temperatures of -3C and had to remain completely motionless to win one game.
One said: “It was like a warzone. People were getting carried out by medics.” The game show is based on the South Korean TV hit about a deadly contest.
Dozens of people could now sue the streaming giant amid claims they were treated like animals during filming.
Responding to the claims, Studio Lambert, The Garden and Netflix stated in a joint statement: “We care deeply about the health and safety of our cast and crew, and invested in all the appropriate safety procedures. While it was very cold on set – and participants were prepared for that – any claims of serious injury are untrue.”
Netflix will debut Squid Game: The Challenge in November. Season 2 has already been confirmed.
