LUPIN has become one of the most popular shows on Netflix, but that does not mean all of its fans are happy with season finale.
Part one of the French crime drama premiered on the popular streaming service last week and fans have already binge-watched the full thing.
The show, which is divided into two parts and has a total of 10 episodes, aired the first five on January 8 and the story of a man named Assane Diop (played by Omar Sy) – a character which is inspired by Maurice Leblanc’s Arsène Lupin.
The janitor travels from his home in Senegal to France so he can provide a better life for his son Raoul (Etan Simon).
He hasn’t had an easy ride as his dad died by suicide in prison when he was younger, after he was framed by the Pellegrini family for stealing an expensive necklace off them.
But he wants to clear his dad’s name.
The French drama has been a surprise hit for Netflix about 70 million households projected to watch at least some of the series in its first 28 days.
Comparing that to recent cultural sensations The Queen’s Gambit and Bridgerton bringing in 62 and 63 million viewers respectively.
The season finale saw one savvy detective discovered Assane’s identity.
Detective Youssef has been intrigued and impressed by Assane’s subterfuge over recent episodes, so the mastermind may even be able to get Youssef on side to clinch Hubert’s guilt.
Meanwhile, Pellegrini now knows the identity of his pursuer, so Assane will have to be extra cautious in his endeavours going forward.
After Raoul’s capture by Pellegrini’s henchman, who knows where the series could take us – but fans are hoping for a happy family reunion above anything else.
They will have to wait to find out if they’ll get that happy ending and they were raging when the part one ended on a such huge cliffhanger.
“I’m on Episode 5 of #Lupin losing my mind at this ending,” wrote one Twitter user.
A second wrote: “Nah netflix is SO wrong for ending part 1 of Lupin on a cliffhanger like that……..”
A third added: “Lupin? I’m so annoyed with this ending.”
And a fourth commented: “Has a show ever had a bigger cliff hanger ending than Lupin?”
The closing credits for the part one of finale read “another part is coming,” which seem to frustrate fans even more because they wanted to know what happened.
“Lupin? I’m so annoyed with this ending. Haybo, what the hell. Part 2 needs to get here ASAP,” wrote one Twitter user.
Another added: “Nah I need Lupin Season 2, it can’t be ending like that.”
Much to fans dismay, Netflix hasn’t set an official release date for Lupin part two, simply saying it would drop some time this year.
It seems likely that the final five episodes of the series have been written and filmed, but that has not been officially confirmed.
