Piers Morgan reveals Susanna Reid apologised to him for ‘frosty’ on-air goodbye after he quit GMB

PIERS Morgan has revealed Susanna Reid called him to apologise for her “frosty” on-air goodbye the day after he quit Good Morning Britain.

The 55-year-old journalist said he was bombarded with messages from friends asking if the pair had fallen out after they watched Susanna’s short monologue.

Piers Morgan revealed Susanna Reid apologised to him for her ‘goodbye’ statement

Writing in the Mail on Sunday, Piers told how Susanna called him for a “clear the air chat” and said sorry for her cool tone.

She then promised they would go for a celebratory lunch where she would break her two-year alcohol abstinence.

Piers wrote: “She apologised for the tone of her chilly goodbye, which was for all the reasons I suspected, and I apologised for leaving her in the lurch so suddenly.

“It was a good conversation, and we agreed that when the dust settles, we’ll have a long lunch to celebrate five extraordinary years.”

Piers called her on-air tone ‘frosty’

He also recounted watching the first episode of GMB following his sudden departure.

Of Susanna’s speech, he said: “Jeez, even my real ex-wife talks more fondly about me than that (and, in fact, did so overnight in a very supportive message).”

Insisting the pair hadn’t fallen out, he continued: “I suspect Susanna’s feeling angry and sad at me leaving just when the show’s soared to new audience heights, concerned for her own future, fearful of troll abuse for publicly backing me (she’s had a repulsive barrel-load of that over the years just for sitting next to me), and general discombobulation at the dramatic turn of events.

“I hope we stay friends because Susanna’s a decent person and we’ve been through a lot together.”

Piers said he was left with no choice but to walk

In his column, Piers revealed Susanna rushed out of the studio after him following his fallout with Alex Beresford the day before.

The show’s weatherman slammed his co-star for his continual criticism of Meghan Markle in light of her Oprah Winfrey interview.

Piers was livid at being called out by a colleague and stormed off, prompting Alex to call him “diabolical”.

Susanna talked him into returning after a 20 minute break to ‘cool down’.

Piers clashed with Alex Beresford

The following day, she remained void of emotion as she said: “Piers and I have disagreed on many things and that dynamic was one of the things viewers loved about the programme.

“He is without doubt an outspoken, challenging, opinionated, disruptive broadcaster.

“He has many critics, and he has many fans. You will know that I disagreed with him about Meghan’s interview.

“He himself clarified his comments about her mental health on the show yesterday. There are many voices on GMB, and everyone has their say.

“But now Piers has decided to leave the programme. Some of you may cheer and others will boo.

“He has been my presenting partner for more than five years and during Brexit and the pandemic and other issues he has been a voice for many of you, and a voice that many of you have railed against.

“It is certainly going to be very different but shows go on and so on we go.”
