Piers Morgan slams trolls who targeted Captain Sir Tom Moore in the days before the fundraising hero’s death

PIERS Morgan slammed “despicable” trolls who targeted Captain Sir Tom Moore in the days before the fundraising hero’s death.

The broadcaster took a moment in Good Morning Britain’s tribute to the late veteran today to shame those who sent abuse to Tom and his family for going on a trip to Barbados in December.

He said: “They never think about the misery they inflict on their targets. I can tell you you inflicted it on the Moore family in their darkest moments, and I think it’s despicable. Lets not them get away with it.”

Captain Tom had not been seen in public since returning from the bucket-list holiday.

On January 31, it was announced that he was being treated for coronavirus after contracting pneumonia, which had prevented him from having the Covid vaccine.

He sadly died yesterday with his family by his bedside in his final hours.

In a statement, his daughters Hannah Ingram-Moore and Lucy Teixeira, said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our dear father, Captain Sir Tom Moore.

“We are so grateful that we were with him during the last hours of his life; Hannah, Benjie and Georgia by his bedside and Lucy on FaceTime. We spent hours chatting to him, reminiscing about our childhood and our wonderful mother. We shared laughter and tears together.

“The last year of our father’s life was nothing short of remarkable. He was rejuvenated and experienced things he’d only ever dreamed of.

“Whilst he’d been in so many hearts for just a short time, he was an incredible father and grandfather, and he will stay alive in our hearts forever.”

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield previously hit back at the nasty troll comments.

Discussing the story with Matthew Wright and Julia Hartley-Brewer, Julia said: “I was stunned to see some trolls on social media saying: ‘Oh, if he didn’t go to Barbados!’

“He went on a lovely, warm, perfectly legal Caribbean holiday with his family, and I think that’s absolutely wonderful he did that and nothing whatsoever to do with his ailments now.

“I do think the trolls need to take a day off.”

Phil added: “A life off! Just sod off!”

Holly added: “The timings don’t work out with this so it’s totally irrelevant anyway!”
