Suspicion is rife, and the two tragic murders threaten to inflame historic divisions sparked during the miners’ strike that tore families apart three decades before.

However, the different points in time relating to the story has left some Sherwood viewers confused, especially when they saw characters using smartphones.

Taking to Twitter, one wrote: “So it’s set in 2004 but the kids are sat on smart phones? I’m confused.”

Another added: “I was really confused about the time frame in #Sherwood With WhatsApp and Smartphones included you think it’s now but supposedly set years ago! Confused? You will be !”

A third tweeted: “Hi everyone. #Sherwood before tonight’s episode is shown ,can someone please explain?

“Yes I get the 1984 miners strike, yes I know the events took place in 2004. But why the smart phones and references to social media.”

Meanwhile a fellow viewer posted: “Bloke who threw the snooker ball said “It’s been 30 years” yet kids are on smart phones, and references to the red wall being broken. What year is this set in? #Sherwood.”

One viewer replied to one of the posts: “??? Missed the reference to red wall? It’s set after the last election.”

Indeed, the ‘red wall’ phrase was coined after the 2019 election which indicates when the show is set.

Meanwhile, some viewers noticed a blunder in the first episode regarding football team Nottingham Forest.

Once scene saw former striking miner Gary Jackson walk out of his house to talk to a young boy called Noah playing football in his street.

Referring to a former footballer, Gary shouted: “Hey, look! It’s Trevor Francis!”

Noah replied: “Who?”

Gary said back: “Who?! First million pound player. Notts Forest centre forward. 52-caps-for-England who!

“Now then… see you’ve got to be light on your feet lads, right? But with power behind you!”

But many viewers took to Twitter to point out that Gary had not referred to Trevor’s football team in the correct way.
