SHOWTRIAL came to a dramatic conclusion on Sunday night – but viewers have slammed the BBC show for having a “confusing and unrealistic” ending.
From the producers of Line of Duty and Vigil, the timely five-part series casts a spotlight on the justice system as it delves into a student accused of murder.
The scene is set for a court case that grips the nation, however, the majority that tuned into last night’s finale were left feeling let down by the end of it.
Fans of the show immediately took to Twitter after Sunday night’s eagerly anticipated finale, ridiculing it for being “predictable” and a “waste of time”.
One viewer simply wrote: “So, I just finished watching Showtrial and I’m really confused by that ending.”
Someone else said: “Still annoyed that I wasted my time binge-watching Showtrial in just two days, only to be rewarded with a very predictable ending.”
While another fumed: “What an unbelievably s*** ending to Showtrial – a complete waste of time.”
From the arrest to the jury’s final verdict, Showtrial switches between both sides of the legal battle.
The legal drama focuses on character Talitha Campbell – the arrogant daughter of a wealthy entrepreneur.
She is arrested following the disappearance of fellow student, Hannah Ellis, the hard-working daughter of a single mother.
Although the story will ring true for some, it is not believed to be based on real life events.
Creator and writer, Ben Richards, says: “The right to a fair trial and the idea of reasonable doubt lie at the heart of a civilised society.
“Showtrial explores how they can be distorted by other factors, in a world where concepts such as fairness, doubt and reason are afforded such diminishing value.”
All five episodes of Showtrial are available to watch on the BBC iPlayer.
