Sometimes I feel so fragile I want to smash someone’s face in, says Our Yorkshire Farm’s Amanda Owen

OUR Yorkshire Farm star Amanda Owen is adored by viewers as she juggles farming life with raising nine children.

But the 47-year-old – who this week admitted having marital problems – says sometimes she feels so fragile she wants to smash someone’s face in.

It’s because the star says the price of having a popular TV show is that she has to put up with online trolls.

Talking to The Celeb Report, Amanda said: “Sometimes I steer clear. Sometimes you feel quite fragile and think you could do without that.

“And sometimes you just feel like smashing someone’s face in.

“It just goes between there and there. I go for totally ignoring it. Quite simply as a kid I was told: ‘If you have nothing good to say, say nothing.’

“I watch very little television – if there’s something I didn’t like I would turn it off or turn it over.

“I would not get in touch with that person and tell them I couldn’t stand their smile or the sound of their voice.

“You can’t keep everyone happy so the more you realise that, the more you’ll be ok.

“One person will say: ‘Isn’t it amazing she still makes cups of tea for tourists, she’s so grounded.’

“And another person goes: ‘How desperate is she still making cups of tea.’”

The Celeb Report this week revealed Amanda and her husband Clive are battling to save their 21-year marriage.

In a joint statement released after the news broke, the couple said they “never said their marriage was perfect”.

They said: “With the TV show and the books we’ve always aimed to show the reality of life on the farm, and just like any marriage we have our stresses and strains, coupled with all the complexities of what we do on the farm and bringing up nine kids.

“We’re a normal family and we’ve never said our marriage is perfect.

“Unfortunately the constant intrusion into our lives from the media has amplified a rocky patch that we’re going through.

“We ask that the media respect our privacy as we work through this.”

Their comments come after The Celeb Report revealed Amanda, 47, has been spending nights away from the family home while her new book hails the virtues of domestic life.

Millions who watch their weekly rural dramas on Channel 5’s hit docuseries Our Yorkshire Farm will have had no idea about their secret marital pain.

Sources say Clive, 66, is “desperate” to repair their relationship while Amanda spends time away from the family home.

It means she’s putting Christmas plans in the background, adding: “I won’t have even bought my cards by the time Royal Mail are saying: ‘Send today or it won’t get there.’

“I am incredibly disorganised. I prioritise what is important.

“Christmas will be sorted and I’ll have had some brainwave for what everyone wants as gifts.

“But I won’t be going whole hog with a mad trolley dash in Hamley’s!”

Amanda and Clive are parents to Raven, 20, Reuben, 17, Miles, 15, Edith, 12, Violet, ten, Sidney, nine, Annas, seven, Clemmie, five, and Nancy, four.

The pair shot to fame in 2011 after appearing on ITV series The Dales with Ade Edmondson. They were also featured on Julia Bradbury’s Coast to Coast, and New Lives In The Wild with Ben Fogle.

Amanda has also released a series of Yorkshire Shepherdess books, with the first out in 2014.

A close family friend said: “It’s incredibly sad. Amanda and Clive are two hugely popular figures here in the Dales, and no one saw this coming.

“Clive loves Amanda to bits and adores her, and fears the marriage may be failing even though he desperately doesn’t want it to. He fears they will divorce.

“He reckons the image of them playing happy families is a load of rubbish. He thinks this will be the last series they film together, and now it’s about looking after the kids and putting them first.

“He wants them to stay together for Christmas and then, unfortunately for him, the decision is very much in Amanda’s hands. He will do as he’s told.”
