Chemotherapy complications
Strictly Come Dancing professional Amy Dowden, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in May, has opened up about her harrowing experience after suffering a terrifying collapse due to complications from chemotherapy. At just 33 years old, Dowden's health took a serious turn when she developed life-threatening side effects following her first round of treatment.
Life on the line
After her initial chemo sessions, Dowden experienced a dangerously low blood pressure and a sudden collapse. The severity of her condition led her mother to immediately call for an ambulance. Dowden's infection had caused her body to go into septic shock, with her organs at risk of failing. The dancer's low blood pressure, low heart rate, and lack of urine production raised serious concerns. Fortunately, she responded to antibiotics and narrowly avoided a fatal outcome.
Unfortunate setbacks
Despite being told by her doctor that her infection was unrelated to her chemotherapy, Dowden faced more health complications after her second round of treatment. She developed clots, which caused her arm to swell and turn purple, and left her struggling to breathe. This prompted another hospital visit, where she was put on blood thinners for the next six months.
Amy's journey on Strictly
Amy Dowden joined the cast of Strictly Come Dancing in 2017 and quickly became a beloved figure among fans. Last year, she was paired with EastEnders star James Bye. Despite her health challenges, Dowden's resilience and determination continue to inspire those around her.
