With excellent turns from his supporting cast which includes fellow comedian Roisin Conaty and Mike Wozniak, Man Down is cringeworthly funny, with plenty of slapstick and laughs.

The IT Crowd stars Chris O’Dowd, Richard Ayoade and Katherine Parkinson as three members of an IT department in a large corporation.

Matt Berry joins the show in later series as their sex mad un-PC boss, and the sitcom follows their exploits both in and out of the office.

While Katherine’s character is always trying to find a way to move up in her career, Chris and Richard’s characters are settled in IT and enjoy a whole host of geeky activities that lead to plenty of laughs and mishaps.

Only Fools and Horses follows the exploits of the Trotter family

The classic British sitcom follows the Trotter family including Del Boy, his younger brother Rodney, Granddad and later, Uncle Albert.

The Trotters live in Peckham and are always wheeling and dealing and selling faulty goods at the local market in a bid to become “millionaires”.

With an array of colourful and quirky supporting characters including Trigger, Boycie and Marlene, Only Fools and Horses is funny, heartwarming and a great example of cleverly written and acted British comedy.

Stand out episodes include the one with the chandeliers, the blow up dolls and Batman and Robin.

55.  Black Books



Black Books stars Dylan Moran as a grumpy bookshop owner

Black Books originally ran on Channel 4 for three series from 2000 and 2004 and is written by Irish comedian Dylan Moran.

Dylan also stars in the sitcom alongside Bill Bailey and Tamsin Greig as Bernard Black, a grouchy bookshop owner who generally despises anyone who dares enter.

Tamsin plays his best friend Fran, who starts off by running a bric-a-brac shop next door, while Bill plays Manny, an optimistic chap who Bernard hires as his assistant and also lets a room in his flat above the shop to.

The trio enjoy drinking and smoking and many episodes see Fran and Manny trying to encourage Bernard to be more sociable and engage in other interests.
