Viewers question location of new swinging drama
Viewers of Channel 4's new drama, The Couple Next Door, have expressed confusion over the setting of the show. The series, which stars Sam Heughan and Eleanor Tomlinson, follows two married couples living in the same cul-de-sac who become sexually entangled. However, some viewers found the style of the houses and the location to be at odds with each other.
Chemistry between the stars
The first episode of the series introduced the tension between Pete and Evie, a newly arrived couple, and their neighbors Danny and Becka. Played by Sam Heughan and Eleanor Tomlinson respectively, there was instant chemistry between Evie and Danny, adding to the drama.
Confusion over the location
Viewers took to social media to express their confusion over where the drama was supposed to be set. One viewer on X (formerly Twitter) asked if anyone else was confused about the location, while another questioned where the show was filmed as the houses didn't resemble those in the UK. Another viewer suggested that the show was set somewhere between Leeds and Luxembourg.
Director's deliberate choice
One viewer provided an explanation, stating that the director deliberately chose to set the show in Leeds but filmed it in a housing estate in the Netherlands that was modeled after US-style housing. The director wanted to create a feeling of something being off, hence the unconventional choice.
The Couple Next Door airs on Channel 4 and all episodes are available for streaming on the Channel 4 website.
