Comedian Frank Skinner Corrects Alex Jones on The One Show

The One Show's Alex Jones found herself in an awkward moment with a celebrity guest during a discussion about the monarchy. Comedian Frank Skinner innocently attempted to offer a helping hand, but ended up being wrong.

Confusion over the Queen

During Monday's episode, Frank Skinner, Clare Balding, and Coleen Rooney appeared to discuss their endeavors. As the segment about the BBC's 500 Words challenge for children came to a close, Frank mistakenly corrected Alex's statement about the finalists potentially meeting the Queen. This led to a series of uncomfortable and panicked moments on air.

Jermaine Jenas Gets Caught Up in the Confusion

Jermaine Jenas, the co-presenter, also got caught up in the confusion caused by Frank's comment. After Alex mentioned that some finalists might meet the Queen, Frank interjected, stating that they wouldn't meet Her Majesty. Jermaine responded by acknowledging the mistake and suggesting they meant to say King Charles. However, Alex stood her ground and repeated that the finalists might meet the Queen.

Camilla's Role as Queen

Alex's statement referred to Camilla, who is now officially known as 'Queen Camilla' or simply 'the Queen' following her and King Charles's joint crowning in May. However, Camilla's role remains that of a consort and she does not formally share the monarch's powers.

An Attempt to Save the Show

In an effort to move past the awkward moment, Jermaine turned to Coleen Rooney and asked about her four sons. He then segued into discussing their interest in creative writing, as per the competition mentioned earlier in the show.

Coleen Rooney's Resolved Defamation Case

Coleen Rooney also revealed during the show that her high-profile defamation court case against Rebekah Vardy has been resolved. She expressed relief at the resolution and shared that she feels present again with her family. Coleen is now telling her side of the story in a three-part docu-series called Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story, airing on October 18 on Disney Plus.

Overall, the moment on The One Show was uncomfortable for all involved, but the show managed to move forward and continue with its regular programming.

The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One and streams on BBC iPlayer.
