Who are David McCallum’s children and what do they do?

NCIS actor David McCallum has passed away aged 90, leaving his family in mourning. The legendary TV and film star leaves behind his beloved kids and devoted wife.

Who are David McCallum's children?

During his life, the late David McCallum had five children from two different relationships. From his first marriage to Jill Ireland, he had three children – Valentine (Val), Paul, and adopted son Jason.

Val followed his father into showbusiness and is a country music guitar player. When David married his second wife Katherine Carpenter, he welcomed two more children – a son called Peter and a daughter named Sophie. Unlike their famous father, they have kept out of the spotlight.

On September 25, 2023, their dad David passed away from natural causes, aged 90.

What happened to Jason McCullum?

Sadly on November 7, 1989, David's adopted son Jason McCullum passed away. He died from a drug overdose after taking a combination of painkillers and other muscle relaxants.

His mother Jill Ireland documented her son Jason's drug battle. In her 1989 book, Life Lines, she revealed that her son had been undergoing medical treatments the year that he died.

"I can never forget the horror of learning Jason was an addict," Jill wrote.

David and Jill adopted Jason at an early age. After the couple divorced, he grew up in Bel Air with his mother and her second husband, actor Charles Bronson.

In April 1989, Jason said he got clean of drugs before relapsing, which sadly ultimately led to his death.

How many times was David McCallum married?

David was married twice, with his first wife being Jill Irealnd. They were wed for 10 years from 1957 before divorcing in 1967.

After this, David married wife Katherine Carpenter in 1967, who he stayed with until his death in 2023.

Devoted husband David once told Closer Weekly that he and Katherine were "two halves of a whole." He said, "We work well together, and when problems come along, we solve them. The best thing about a marriage is you find out what the other person wants and make damned sure they get it."

Then again in 2022, David praised his wife in an interview, saying that her success was what helped "keep the family running."

"This is the life of an actor, particularly in the early years before you get a little better known: your main concern is to make enough money to keep the family running," he told Radio Times.

"Fortunately I married a young lady who was more talented than I was [Katherine] and so we shared the burden together and we've had a very successful relationship."
